Halloween
The art portion, was originally, a demon with more than a human face, but when I went to make the mask it was a lot harder to make the face so a didn't make a second one, the original design also had horns, I forgot cardboard so no horns but I got another idea, Patchwork skin and then the original idea of two mouths one with bloody fangs and a sewn shut mouth, patchwork skin of different varieties, a bloody hole were the treads were, with an eye shown shut and another eye cover with threads.
History of All Hallows: The day of Halloween way originally All Hallows a holiday of the Celts of ancient Britain and Ireland, it was a holiday to help those who had passed come into the mortal realm to visit their families bonfires were lit on hilltops to ward away evil spirits, sometimes they wore masks and disguises to avoid being recognized by the spirits present, it was by doing this that witches, hobgoblins, fae, and demons were associated with the day. The day was also associated with marriage, health, and more importantly death. When the Celts were conquered by the Romans they added some festivals to the celebration, commemorating the passing of the dead, they also worshipped the goddess of the harvest Pomona this was in the first century CE. The seventh century CE the pope of that time Boniface V established a day called All Saints Day ( It was originally on May thirteenth but was moved because you know cant have a Pagan Holiday without Christian observance which is why it was moved to November first) So naturally the evening before all saints day was known as Hallows Eve. By the end of the Middle Ages, the secular and the Ancient day had merged together (shocking I know). It was a reformation so it could put an end to religious holiday among protestants although in Britain ( among other places) it was still celebrated as a secular holiday. Much like other festivities, Hallows Eve was a forbidden holiday among American Colonists, although sometime in the 1800s there were festivals for the Harvest that included some elements of Hallows Eve. However, when a large portion of Immigrants came including the Irish they took their celebration of Hallows Eve with them this was during the Mid 19th century. As time went on in the 20th century it became a popular holiday mainly among children. Poems Decode:
Halloween is the day of creatures and spirits which is often depicted, the spirit smiling slyly represents that she got him with her ‘trick’ another part of Halloween, then when she disappears a clock strikes symbolizing it is just the beginning. 2. Informative Essay This informative essay is about the changes and the transitions of Halloween and the opinions of those who celebrate the holiday so some things may seem to be worded a bit differently. Hallow’s eve was originally a Celtic holiday that was overrun by the Romans which mainly stuck around, in England and Ireland, in the 1800s it came to America, however it was one of the forbidden holiday’s. It wasn’t really celebrated until the 1900s, which was mainly a festival celebrating the harvest. It wasn’t until the 20th century that trick r’ treat was a thing at Halloween, well progressively at least. I do not believe it became a thing until 1919, considering it’s been around for about and this is just an estimate 100 years. So within that fact please sit back and just read all these facts I have on the night of the dead. Hallows Eve the original name of Halloween, the name of Hallows Eve originated when the Christian religion took over it was the day before all saints day which originally was May 13th but because of this holiday of the damned needing to be watched over so the day before all saints day was known as Hallows Eve. It was celebrated by the poor going door to door in England asking for a treat and if people did not comply they would get a trick. This was mainly in England, Scotland celebrated it differently (I just didn’t research it.) However when America estranged itself from England The Holiday of All Hallows Eve came to a close, until Scots and English men came to the Colonies. It was a forbidden Holiday for years however even though the Holiday was forbidden there was a Harvest Festival. In other cases people (From what I have gathered) have different versions of Halloween whereas areas people don’t celebrate it because religious reasons, others think it’s just a night mainly for candy and dress up, while others know the real meaning. Now let me explain what the real reason is behind the All Hallows day. Now All Hallows was a Holiday originally developed by the Celts mainly those in England and Scotland, someone would go on a hill put on a mask and wave the spirits of those who were no longer in this world to come forward to be with there families on this day (Much like Cinco De Mayo). With fire the warded of the bad thing like Evil spirits and Demons, let the good come forward. Now that I’ve explained where it came from and what it means let me explain why I chose this. My family are major Halloween Fanatics, my mother however has always had a certain idea of what Halloween should be like. Now let me explain this Halloween though celebrated with the Harvest and the day before All Saints day was a dark day when Creatures good and bad came out of hiding and came to walk among us. My mother believes it is our job as people to keep that idea alive, by being scary. The day was devoted to Ghouls, Demons, Vampires, Werewolves, Fae, Spirits, all these things and we have turned it to a day of dress up and candy so you can imagine the disdain when my siblings say they don’t want to be scary. Hallows Eve is (Besides Christmas) one of the oldest celebrated Holidays, and I want to bring back what it meant and what we celebrate it for. What was made this Project was about synthesis a term used to say one combined with another thing to make a new thing. Description of Creatures Night Every year on the date of 10/31 creatures of all shapes and sizes come to walk among humankind, and every year on this date us as people dress up as Ghouls, Goblins, Demons, to hide from these monsters, we put down what we have gathered from our Harvest and put it in the center of town for the Creatures to eat while we scatter around the town for treats for the family that has past. To keep the Demons at bay it is a tradition to lay an offering by giving them a good portion of the harvest and then when the creatures are distracted the children go around town tapping on windows, adults then give them one piece of candy or some type of fruit. They rush home to offer their bounty to their Ancestors. Poem About Creatures night “When leaves start turning orange and golden-brown, Up in the sky, with the orange moon so full, The silence is broken by shrieking bats. A night of fears and fright, Every little boy and girl shall don the mask, and with hearts full of fear, The silence is broken by shrieking bats. Witches with warts, vampires with fangs that bite, Imaginations taken flight, on that one fearful night of ghouls and those alike. Demons and those alike come out to play on this day of the Harvest, You never forget what the night brings, And when you are treated to a true Creatures Night.” |
